This is a straight forward repair task, if you have basic skill and tools it should be not an issue. However in any repair need to take note of tools that are sharp and are dangerous, do take care in any repair work as there are always risk involved.

Alternative method to use double sided tape with masking tape to hold the wooden block. Of course before is to removed any dirt or dust from the gap. As sometime there might be dirt trap inside gap. It recommend use vacuum cleaner to suck any dirt / dust.
