How to Trim leather belt to size ( 革ベルトのサイズを調整する方法 )

 A request from a friend with leather belt, need to trim to size.

                     This friend lady belt purchase from Italy , Quelli della Pelle. Hand Made in BELLAGIO. ITALY. 

Specification :- Length 105 cm thickness 3.2mm , width 20mm. One prong buckle (prong pin is 4 mm diameter), 

革ベルトを使用している友人からのリクエストで、サイズに合わせてトリミングする必要があります。

                      この友人の女性のベルトはイタリアの Quelli della Pelle から購入しました。 BELLAGIO でハンドメイドで作られています。 イタリア。

仕様:- 長さ105cm、厚さ3.2mm、幅20mm。 1 本爪バックル (爪ピンは直径 4 mm)

For this belt trimming case, have propose four options .

** Please view attached document (one page) with drawing and information to decide better.

Option #1 – punch additional hole towards the buckle direction and make one new belt keeper/loop. Retain original buckle and belt keeper/loop. Belt overall length is maintain at 105cm

Option #2 – Trim off part the leather end towards the buckle, then fold that end and stitch to hold the belt keeper/loop. Hence the belt is shorter and need to punch holes additional towards the tips. Belt overall length is shorter approx 93cm

Option #3 - Trim off part the leather end towards the buckle, but buy a new clip on / ratchet buckle that fit the size (20mm width with prong diameter of 4 mm). Belt overall length is shorter approx 98cm

Option #4 - Trim off part the leather end towards the buckle. Get another leather strap of 20mm width to attached to belt end that was trim off. Stitch new leather strap to belt and retain old belt keeper/loop, retain original buckle. Belt overall length is shorter approx 100cm.

Provide these option for end user to decide on how to approach this case.

* note :- have highlight to owner the original belt have two snap on button which is difficult to remove and reuse then. Also at this point in time cannot source locally for similar snap on button type, size, material. Hence have recommend to use thread stitching after trimming belt (applicable for option #3 and #4 only).

 This is my trail and error project.. Any suggestion is most welcome ok?

オプション #4 - バックルに向かって革の端の一部を切り取ります。 切り落としたベルトの端に20mm幅の革紐をもう一本取り付けます。 新しいレザーストラップをベルトに縫い付け、古いベルトキーパー/ループと元のバックルを保持します。 ベルト全長は約100cm短くなります。

エンド ユーザーがこのケースにどのようにアプローチするかを決定できるように、これらのオプションを提供します。

* 注: - オリジナルのベルトの所有者には、取り外して再利用するのが難しい 2 つのスナップオンボタンが付いていることを強調します。 また、現時点では、同様のスナップオン ボタンのタイプ、サイズ、素材を現地で調達することはできません。 したがって、ベルトをトリミングした後に糸ステッチを使用することをお勧めします (オプション #3 と #4 にのみ適用されます)。

  これは私の試行錯誤プロジェクトです。何か提案は大歓迎です。

Hush Puppies 35mm belt - ハッシュパピー 35mm ベルト

 Fabricate a new Hush Puppies 35mm belt, as old belt strap is worn off, but buckle is in good state. 古いベルトストラップは摩耗していますが、バックルは良好な状態であるため、新しい Hush Puppies 35mm ベルトを製作します。

First hole from buckle (reference edge) is about 78.5 cm , spacing between hole is about 2.5 cm and there are five hole.. Belt length is about 98.5 cm (end to end). バックルから最初の穴（基準端）は約78.5cm、穴の間隔は約2.5cmで、穴は5つあります。ベルトの長さは約98.5cm（端から端まで）です。

Show the old belt which is worn off and need to replace with new belt strap. 摩耗して新しいベルトストラップに交換する必要がある古いベルトを表示します。

To remove buckle is to pull in the direction as shown. There is a spring action from a screw at center (inside). バックルを外すには、図の方向に引っ張ります。中央（内側）のネジからバネの作用があります。

The buckle is Clip on buckle or Ratchet buckle. バックルはクリップオンバックルまたはラチェットバックルです。

Measure buckle pin size, so it can push thru the belt holder strap, it is about 4.2 mm. バックルピンのサイズを測って、ベルトホルダーストラップに押し込むことができるようにすると、約 4.2 mm になります。

Leather use is a pre cut , use edge beveller #2 size on all edge of belt strap.

Apply chemical TOKONOLE to belt edge for burnishing.

Burnishing edge with wooden slicker.

Use sand paper to smoothen edge

Apply chemical TOKONOLE to other side of belt edge.

Use sand paper to smoothen bevel edge 

Cut the end of belt and punch hole, install new belt to buckle.

Cut a 15 cm strap as belt keeper, marking for preparation to punch hole size 9mm (for hanger hook) and 4 mm (belt buckle pin).

Use round punch hole tools, this size is for hanger hook. I use a small straight punch (size 11mm) at the lower edge of round hole. 丸い穴あけパンチツールを使用します。このサイズはハンガーフック用です。丸い穴の下端には、小さな直線パンチ (サイズ 11 mm) を使用します。

The reason for this is to allow easier to hook and hang belt keeper. ベルトキーパーを引っ掛けたり吊り下げたりするのが簡単になるからです。

How to open jaw of buckle. バックルのあごの開け方。

The buckle is Clip on buckle or Ratchet buckle. バックルはクリップオンバックルまたはラチェットバックルです。

Leather Project # 7 (Belt 35mm Improvement) - レザープロジェクト#7（ベルト35mm改良）

A request from a relative with belt width 35mm, to add an anti slip loop and improvement to his belt.  ベルト幅35mmの親戚から、ベルトに滑り止めループを付けて改良してほしいという依頼。

Leather Project # 7 (Belt trimming) 

A friend request to shorten her two belt,

 a) About 20 mm width and another is 

b) width 30 mm).

1. OROTON genuine leather – 20mm, 108cm length

2. Quelli Della Pelle hand made in Bellagio Italy – 30mm , 104 cm length

Tools use to trim off excess leather of belt ( Quelli Della Pelle hand made in Bellagio Italy ) .
Note:- top right side is the cut off material to be use for making key chain.

This repair is quite straight forward as it involved in removing a rivet. Next trim the leather and reinsert and punch hole and add a Chicago Thread and Nut.

Tools for making key chain.

1. Quelli Della Pelle hand made in Bellagio Italy – 30mm , 104 cm, trim off about 2.25 or 5.72 cm

 This is straight forward task, remove a rivet and replaced with a Chicago screw and nut.

2. OROTON genuine leather – 20mm, 108cm trim off about 2.25 or 5.72 cm
This one a bit challenging it need to skive the end piece.

Use special knife to remove excess leather and reduce thickness required.

Use thickness gage to check the original thickness and use skive machine to trim to required thickness

A request from end user to save the cut off piece and make into small key chain.

Rear view of cut off leather belt to be use to make simple key chain for friend.

 Fabricate a simple key chain with cut off leather and additional leather to compliment.

Use a awl to punch to match with original leather holes.
This is to minimize additional hole and also to ensure alignment.

Apply glue before stitching.








Add simple hook and small key ring

Both key chain is very simple design and both added a "D" ring to hold hook or small key ring.

Leather Project # 6 (Belt 35mm)

    Trail run making belt of width 35 mm, use a thick leather Alaskan Leather material.

Cut the one end of belt, while the other end is terminate with a buckle.

Use beveler for the edge

Use this stitching pony to smooth both edge with sand paper and apply tag gum.

Making belt (special request from a freind)

Today after friend saw my new belt he politely ask for one new belt.
So we immediately took some measurement on his old belt 1) Belt width 2) Belt length, thickness of leather, colour choice.

The final question when it can be ready it depend on my work load and office is in the transition from ISO/IEC 17025 from year 2005 to year 2017.
