Do take note there are several You Tube video have very excellent topic on how to sharpen knife which is related to this subject matter.
It will be good to review and evaluate them base on your skill, experience on sharpen cutting edge.
Do take note it will affect your leather project is the cutting is dull.

Testing it cutting edge by try cutting fruit of lemon.

Close up view of the cutting process to verify if the sharping process and inspection are good to ensure better cutting edge.

Taking measurement and cut leather material to size to fabricate sheath.

Add a protection layer inside for pairing knife sheath

Both side have a plastic material to protect the inner leather layer from the sharp paring knife.

These are special knife for skiving leather to required thickness. Useful for trimming certain leather product which requires edge to trim certain thickness.


The overall cost saving is achieve and satisfactory for leather craft project with this new parring knife..

Leather Button hand press Set (4 piece) #5

           This is another special order for hand press to use for a specific button type and shape.
This button shape ,contour and size is not readily available from current two leather craft shop.
     Hence no choice to get a workshop to fabricate this set of four items.


      

Total cost is RM400.00

Leather Pairing Knife #4 part ONE

                 NEW tool for leather craft have request a workshop to help fabricate a new paring knife using a new purchase of new knife from COSWAY shop.
             Note the knife have a very special material and steel use a special materials it very sharp and good for leather craft application.

This way the overall cost are reduce from RM 300.00 to less than RM 100.00 and two pairing knife (exclusive to polishing and sharpening).

Leather tool -Scissor Handle Part #1

  Own tool scissor without insert sleeve for the handle.
It is to help reduce pressure point on handle during cutting.

15th July
Update the wording and correct typo error

Take measurement on material length required

Glue the two edge next step to punch hole

Try a few way to stitching the two edge together for the handle

Prepare leather strip for the other handle of scissor.

Some of the tools used for this project.

Leather Tools and Tips #8

         Need to protect the sharp edge tool...

Since most of the project uses the sharp edge for better cutting and clean edge is required. It best to protect the sharp cutting edge.

These are some ways to protect the tool cutting edge.

Thread cutter, prepare material for this tool.

Two version of sheath for thread cutter

Wrap knife with plastic sheet to use wet leather method.

Round punch hole and oblong punch hole tool.
All these project uses scrap leather odd and end piece.

Leather Tools and Tips #5

Leather tools project

This project is to protect asset and part of safety aspect for this hobby for sharp pointed tool sheath .

Project is a very simple and straight forward and use small scrap leather.

The scratch awl is very sharp tool, to protect it sharp tip have use leather to cover  over tips.

 One sample sheath for scratch awl tool.

 The design is such that the pointed tips does not protrude outside the sheath . The depth is limited as set forth by the handle shape is engaged.

It will be better if a taper plastic cone cap is inserted for better protection.

Have found a simple solution by using a small plastic end cap to minimize sharp tips of scratch awl from protrusion on sheath.
Will share a photo when it become available.

Leather Tools and Tips#2

Another small project for leather tool, burnishing roller.

 Prepare to cut wooden block to required size.

Use a ply wood with a Aluminum L bracket to guide edge of circular saw.

Note:- the type of wooden material is also a factor to consider, in this case use a softer wood material.
When time permit, will try other wood material and compare it effectiveness.









 Marking for cutting and use scrap peg to prevent cut gap compression by bench jaw when it tighten the jaw grip.

 First rough cut the outline of the tool.

 Drill hole for center point on tool

Trim off the unwanted part

use tool to shape groove.

try out on project..looks good so far. Need

more time to test out how effective is this wood material.

Base on feedback from other leathercraft expert, material of wood play an important part for burnishing tool.

Hence need more time to experiment and evaluate how effective for each type of wood material.
