Leather size is about 5 sq feet, base on the marking
Use recycle card board ,cut and try paper template for tote bag design.
This method of using recycle paper have pro and con. Notice the top is wider and taper toward the bottom.
Tips:- remember to have sufficient space for seam allowance
Another design and of different wide size template for tote bag. In this case it is straight side.
Comparing both design template
Use a recycle paper and draw an actual size template for leather to check it fit the given leather piece.
Close up view on the template, it recommend to "verify" before cut leather.

This view of magnet head is inserted into leather strip with two slit cut . A supporting plate with bent magnet tag outward.
The other leather layer to over the head to minimize magnets tag part make contact with bag layer.
Both part of magnet latch are punch hole in preparation to attached to bag top edge. Both are stitch together with top edge leather strip.
Mark line along top edge where glue is apply.
*Tips, it recommended to scratch the edge before apply glue to attach wrap over layer.
Overall view of bag with top edge and magnetic latch stitch together.
You can see a marker line to use as guide to ensure both magnet are in align.
