I did a video about stitching recently which I hope was helpful but some people having been saying to me that they can only make the stitch neat on one side. In this quick video I show an updated method which also includes a cast over type of movement which may help to neaten up the back side.

Leather Tools and Tips

A unique tools for stitching work.

Since have no access to special tool in Malaysia, decided to fabricate base on best practice and whatever part is readily available on hand.

Before this tool have use a typical scratch awl for this work. it is too big , bulky and not very finger user friendlier for this purpose.
The handle is design for hand grip size and shape.

First try out by using a wooden dowel part and drill a small hole on one end of dowel.
Then apply glue to drill hole on dowel and insert needle with glue.
However saw to an old rubber stamp handle which prove to be more useful then wooden dowel handle.

It is easier to handle the round knob and provide better grip in between finger while holding the stitching needle.

Refer to some of the video link to understand better how to use this simple tool during stitching work.

* note will share tips and inform on how to use this simple tool for stitching.

Please view this YouTube video to understand the purpose and use of this tool for stitching purpose and make your project easier to manage and be more productive.

This the tool use to assist in saddle stitching. Refer to this YouTube link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGuiha5S2oE

This tool is to help "open" up the stitch punch hole to allow easier to insert stitching needle.
To minimize thread being puncture/ entangle during stitching work process.

Update 10th Nov 2018

Continue with project.

Take actual measurement for handle wrap, quickly wrap around the handle to determine the required length.

In this case the approximate length is about 35 cm.
Terminate the beginning part by wrap over, of course after confirmation apply glue to the wrap material.

Sandpaper the surface on wooden dowel before apply glue for better adhesion.

This is how we begin the wrapping process.
