Leather repair (Friend's Leather Executive Bag) Part #1
Primarily the following defect was noted.
1. The leather handle part was worn off with broken leather material.
*Note:- however it was great challenges job after opening it up the flap, to repair on hand handle, see sub part 1a) to 1e)
1a) The broken leather need to replace rivet holding the handle.
1b) New
rivet needed to replace lock mechanism the old rivet (have challenge to find
replacement).
1c) Need
to replace leather support base and leather strap and hand wrap
1d) During repair handle noted the internal material is worn off. this pose new challenge.
2. Some part of the edge was worn off especially at bottom corner part of bag. Certain part thread is missing and split between edge.
3. The latch lock need to replace with original rivet type and colour (it current use blind rivet)
4. Overall leather surface is dry and sign of wear and tear. Leather need to rub olive oil as the some part of the leather is very dry, small crack line. Cleaning was done to remove dirt and dust before applying oil.
5. Sourcing for original parts is real challenging as these material, texture, quality, thread, tools and etc. This poses great challenge and great resource to purchase and source for closes alternative materials to match the repair product. This is some road block and pose difficulty and time consuming at time exhausting. However this is part a parcel for any repair work is getting the correct parts with same specification is very demanding.
This is how the rivet is replace for the lock latch see item 1b)
Matching the colour and size of rivet
Example of rivet head removed. Have to be careful during drilling rivet head to avoid slippage and damage other part in this process.
1c) initial finding saw
stitches on handle leather peeling off and on strap. Base to brass
"D" clip is worn and tear off.
Hand warp on leather strap, with thread bust.
