Try new design for HDD carrying pouch #6

Past post on Hard Disk Drive pouch are as follows:-

Try changes the design where the HDD (Western Digital model MY PASSPORT) .

Changes instead of side way insert the HDD into pouch, top down .

The cable pouch is attached on the rear of HDD pouch and use the unique leather edge for closing.

Added a tools list for beginner to view.

Make measurement on leather materials to see it fit project.

Note:; create weigh by using old water tap and attached to plywood. Useful to hold big piece leather when cutting.

Tools use to mark and cut project leather to size.

Cut two side strip to be stitch later.

Add a small strip of harden cloth for the HDD

Stitch one side of strip, so to position the strip in position

Use clip to hold them in place before punch hole.

It better to attached for one side first.

Use the unique edge shape as part of the cable interface pouch.

Note this not a final stitching thread on pouch but to hold project, side strip in place and position to verify.

Use a scrap leather for skiver machine to ensure correct required thickness.

The scrap leather is the triangle is to verify correct thickness.

Do take note I have use some thread to hold in place the side strip (see the bottom stitch thread is to hold in place.

This to allow the rear pouch layer to be punch hole to assemble.

Skiver machine is use to remove about 3 mm thickness on three side of edge to do stitching.

Tips:; before skive the edge use a scrap leather to check and set correct thickness to shave off.

Tips:- At time after skiving the thickness might require a sharp blade to trim thickness on edge.

Use cable interface to see it can fit in.

Add button for cable pouch.

Tools use for this work.

Special request leather project - Cerebral Palsy training shoe (Part Two)

Delay in project was due to several factors, part one was posted on 18th Nov 2019 was to confirm the template was applicable.

Since last meet with user recently have gather more input and feedback. Then come the final adjustment and idea was this new design for the shoe.

Original paper template, a few changes and placement of hook as per feedback or input.

Request for slightly longer strap for all. Request use the similar strap use web strap found on backpack bag.

Share some tools use for this project

Place paper template on leather surface to gauge the required size to cut.

The seal stamp is use on the strap.

Leather Repair Project Part #1 (leather executive bag)

Leather repair (Friend's Leather Executive Bag) Part #1

A friend leather bag was send for repair evaluation, this expensive executive leather bag a several worn off parts.

Primarily the following defect was noted.

1. The leather handle part was worn off with broken leather material.

*Note:- however it was great challenges job after opening it up the flap, to repair on hand handle, see sub part 1a) to 1e)

1a) The broken leather need to replace rivet holding the handle.

1b) New rivet needed to replace lock mechanism the old rivet (have challenge to find replacement).

1c) Need to replace leather support base and leather strap and hand wrap initial finding saw stitches on handle leather peeling off and on strap. Base to brass "D" clip is worn off.

1d) During repair handle noted the internal material is worn off. this pose new challenge.

2. Some part of the edge was worn off especially at bottom corner part of bag. Certain part thread is missing and split between edge.

3. The latch lock need to replace with original rivet type and colour (it current use blind rivet)

4. Overall leather surface is dry and sign of wear and tear. Leather need to rub olive oil as the some part of the leather is very dry, small crack line. Cleaning was done to remove dirt and dust before applying oil.

5. Sourcing for original parts is real challenging as these material, texture, quality, thread, tools and etc. This poses great challenge and great resource to purchase and source for closes alternative materials to match the repair product. This is some road block and pose difficulty and time consuming at time exhausting. However this is part a parcel for any repair work is getting the correct parts with same specification is very demanding.
