Leather Project # 8 (Pencil box case)

Leather Project # 8 (Pencil box case) .

Design and fabricate pencil box case using discarded silicon sealant tube.
Ideal length for typical pencil length is about 19 cm and the casing is about 21 cm.

Select a suitable discarded casing from "silicon sealant" and clean both inside and outside it.

Cut off unwanted part and use sand paper to de- blurred after cutting off edge by using sandpaper a sharp knife.

Tips :- use a good support to grip part when perform cutting action.

Tips :- use vice or "V" shape part to hold part.

Sand paper the rough cut edge. This smaller section is for the top cover for pencil box.

Cut leather material to size to match casing project.

Notice the top cover leather is emboss with pattern.

Tips :- it is easier to emboss pattern before stitching.

Method to stitch the top cover

Open files and set size to match the leather pattern desired.
Recommend to use only computer without touch screen sensor.
This will prevent image movement while doing tracing.

Place tracing paper on top of monitor screen surface and start tracing.

Use tape to hold to leather, however do take note some leather surface is susceptible to cause damage to leather dye colour. So do check first.

Tips is to have tracing paper almost same size of leather materials

Leather tools and tips #12 (Stropping Board)

                     Leather tools and tips #12 (Stropping Board)

A request from a friend to make a stropping board for him. Use for his kitchen knife.
       
      Leather craft  tools and tips #12 (Stropping Board) , specification about 12 inch length and 3 inch width leather materials.

Got a big piece of plywood from crate box. cut to various size for each project.
Hence use circular saw with other "tools" to help cut off.

 Tools use for this project , example wood working portable bench, various G clamp size , one long L bracket , marker pen, ruler, vacuum cleaner, dusting brush and etc.

Use a pen to mark offset to cut plywood.

Tips #1 :-  Masking tape to cover area cut line to minimise plywood splinting edge.

Tips #2 :- Use aluminium bracket and wood piece to guide circular saw blade.

Overall view on set up to prepare for cutting a straight line with circular saw.

Use circular saw to cut ply wood













Update 2nd May 2020.

 After glue both plywood and allowed to cured . Then  proceed to cut stropping broad handle shape.

Tools used is copying saw, G clamp, wooden support, vacuum cleaner, pencil and ruler.

Close up view on cut line for handle.

File off the sharp part of the nail, use a small piece of tape to minimise scratch the wooden surface.

Paint a few layer of acrylic paint to rear section of plywood after sandpaper surface.
Apply paint to all edge of plywood.


Allow for proper drying after apply paint.

Covid-19 Please stay at home, be safe and protect your family

Hello ALL fellow leather craft-man,
       It best to stay at home to protect yourself and family and friend.

I have been busy, adjusting our lifestyle due to current Covid-19 virus, within Malaysia we are following government order for Movement Control Order in place since 18th March 2020.
Hopefully all follow this to break the chain of infection.

Take care and stay at home, be safe, wash your hand regularly and follow your local country and WHO guideline on health care.

Update on 10th April 2020.
   Our PM have announce to extend Movement Control Order (MCO) to 28th April 2020. Ministry of health is closely monitoring the infection case daily so far there is NO surge on infection cases as they taking proactive step to break the chain.

*Note:- First two week of MCO is from 18th March to 31st Match, second MCO extend 1st April to 14th April 2020.

Update on 28th April 2020
    Malaysia third MCO is extend for another two week from 15th April until 28th April. and fourth MCO is until 12th May 2020.
