Sun Glass cover -Special request

   👀 This is another challenges for customize to a specify sunglasses, not sure of the brand. But the basic requirement is to get measurement on owner sun glass.
The design of sun glass is very wide and all type of design , shape, pattern unique feature is unlimited that you can think and imagine.

So first step is take basic measurement on the customer sunglass.

See all the step and share the shape structure is very important to suit and yet protect the sunglass lens and holder frame.

Making belt (special request from a freind)

Today after friend saw my new belt he politely ask for one new belt.
So we immediately took some measurement on his old belt 1) Belt width 2) Belt length, thickness of leather, colour choice.

The final question when it can be ready it depend on my work load and office is in the transition from ISO/IEC 17025 from year 2005 to year 2017.

Leather Tools and Tips #4

   Make new tools and sheath to protect the sharp edge

1) Punch round hole tool accessory

Use recycle plastic pipe to hold round hole punch. Try to improve on ergonomic tool to minimize hand injury when using it.

2) Electric planer (Black and Decker)  protector for the blade underneath

To protect this planer Black and Decker's model DN750 sharp cutter underneath from damage.

Measure how long the material for the holder

Tote Bag #4 (relative request)

          ✋ Receive a special request from relative for a simple tote bag and attached sample design.
Of course need to determine the type of design base on user feedback, then ask these questions and clarify the user needs.

1. Determine what size is the user request for specific reason?
2. Next is what functional design for the bag?
3. Any additional feature or accessories is required?
4, Type of leather, thickness , colour , pattern on leather, type of handle and etc.

Key Chain #03 (Retractable Key Chain)

   From previous key chain project was think way of doing thing differently for key chain.
As previous key chain use manual pulling and retractable key chain design.

So far have not seen this in Pinterest site.

 Burrow a new trolley from a relative to help move item from point A to point B.


 💪  First time have added a few layer of bubble warp on trolley handle, but it did not last long.
 

This round take opportunity to wrap handle with leather material to make it better grip and less slippage, more comfortable and more durable outcome, pattern emboss..and etc.

This project is simple however the stitching pattern is challenging.
As this first time encounter to emboss pattern on leather.

Tips of the day, it is important the leather material (leather property) is taken into consideration like thickness, flexibility and etc. The idea was to have a sufficient gap where both edge meet when wrap around .

As this have outcome on the project.

Would recommend before start project is to cut a scrap strip to wrap around project handle to get the feel and estimate what gap is required.

Non Leather Project #5 (Sharpen Kitchen Knife)

    Saw a kitchen knife was out of shape 💁 and 'blunt' and 'dull' cutting edge, at time have difficulty to cut meat or vegetable.

The some effort to re shape the edge to a straight edge as currently the knife edge was out of shape due to incorrect method to sharpen and the oil stone was out of shape too.

Preparation and what tool is required for this set up.

Mark line with red marker to enhance and make more visible when grinding the knife edge

 This is how to hold the knife in grinding position, Safety first check carefully before you start work.
Health and safety is paramount to any craftsman.

 Use dremel tool and diamond coated wheel to grind cutting edge to a straight line.
As the original knife was sharpen by an inexperience person.

It good tool like dremel motor it take short time to grind to desire shape.

Take care on own safety and wear goggle at all times.

First round is to trim edge to it original shape and pattern.

Non Leather Project # 6 (Gait Belt) Updated on 24th June

   This is an interesting project which I saw at Lam Wah Ee of phyiso department was using to help patient recovery.

Certain patient need this gait belt to assist them during their daily physio activity such as aid to balance and walk with another person close by holding the gait belt.

There are numerous design of gait belt to suit each individual needs and requirement due to their disability or weakness.

Was able to meet a person in charge of rehabilitation department and physio activity

This is own version of gait belt using veg tan leather, foam PU, Velcro tape and other like rope. This is the end product

Need to study the current patient needs and do some basic measurement before begin project

1) the hand width is approximately 10 cm to 12 cm.
2) Waist length is approximately 118 cm to 130 cm depend on waist line of patient.
3) Number of handle point to added to the gait belt is depend of your need and patient needs. Best interview care giver and patient to acquire better inform and measurement.
4) Type of latching method, button fastener, or velcro or other alternative is also have to be decided.
5) Padding material for more comfort to end user which is the patient. Check are they allergic to certain fabric or leather.
6) It recommend to be careful because of needs and suitability of the gait belt, we have to take into basic needs, it might good to interview physio department personnel to get feedback base on their usage and experience and purpose.
7) Still learning from other expert on the Gait Belt design and what to looks out in better design.

This beside the gait belt my relative is request but she ask to look into her case. I say will check around for idea and solution.

Another challenge for wheel chair user, it does not have place to hang the urine bag in this case relative is wheel chair user but have use a recycle to carry the urine bag on wheel chair.
SO I took picture of the wheel chair and study what option or location is suitable to hang the urine bag and it tubing attached.

Fabricate the handle part.

Apply glue to rope

Estimate the circumference of the rope diameter use in this is about 4 cm

Estimate the tubular handle size base on your hand size and in close position as shown

Cut long strip of veg tan leather as waist size is about 90 cm to 120 cm.
Use long straight ruler or in this case is aluminum "L" bracket of sufficient thickness, best to check first before use.
