This is what I learn from other expert people like leather supplier, internet (YouTube and blog and other resource and etc), from experience friend on leather tips. It the knowledge we gain is important however it is not the intent of this blog to cover in great details on leather materials.

It about sharing what work for your project is important and sharing tips as we learn from each other.
Notice the majority of leather material that I source is from a few shop in Northern region of Malaysia, very limited leather supplier in Northern region.

So what I share is very limited inform only, please bear with me if I make any mistake and still learning from other .

In the beginning on doing leather project for the first time. Did not know various type of leather material or their properties can make your project look more presentable and usable for it intent purpose.

What I did for practice in the beginning stage was buy scrap piece of leather to save cost and try experiment on various way to stitch leather and try different method of stitching both manual and using sewing machine.
There was some success when use an old sewing machine and try various thread material for sewing cloth and use default needle size and type but it produce very inconsistent result.

初めてレザープロジェクトを行うにあたって。 さまざまな種類の革素材やその特性によって、プロジェクトの見栄えが良くなり、目的に合わせて使いやすくなる可能性があることを知りませんでした。

最初の段階で私が練習としてやったのは、コストを節約するために端切れの革を買ってきて、さまざまな革の縫い方を試したり、手縫いとミシンを使ったさまざまな縫い方を試したりすることでした。

古いミシンを使用し、布を縫うためにさまざまな糸の素材を試し、デフォルトの針のサイズとタイプを使用すると、ある程度の成功はありましたが、非常に一貫性のない結果が得られます。

It was frustrating at time and but a good learning process along the way.

Slowly learning the correct way after watching You Tube as my "Sifu" / Master and further experimenting different leather material and accessories and tool was the way forward to learning.

Due to my limited knowledge and skill it fun to learn other thru various self learning method. One day discovered a lady from Taiwan have a very simple way to demonstrate how to make simple leather project which is practical and easy to follow.

There are numerous leather craft web site that we can learn from there. Preference which site to surf depending on what you looking for and which level of skill you are at that point in time.
There is no hard and fast rule just go with the flow on your project. Main thing is to enjoy and have fun as you move forward.

Trying hand on different type and design for CABLE ORGANIZER. Saw a few design from Pinterest web site. It is simple to make and follow. Straight strap with button, added a hook.

Sharing step by step work instruction for cable organizer , hope the instruction is clear , easy to understand and visible. There is no hard and fast rule when working with leather. A good rule of thumb is be careful with these basic tool and safety first is important. Try not use short cut as these tools are sharp and painful when you injure your body part.

Have fun and enjoy your hobby work. I am still learning as there is wide range, type, quality, various grade and thickness of leather to experiment.

So where and how do we start off a leather project in mind?
There are few way to start your leather project.
1) If you have friend or colleague who can help you is even better, consult them for advice or assistance.
2) Or if you do your home work and have search internet for leather project they can also guide you thru. This there is a wide web site to scan thru and get some idea how to approach each project.
3) Another way is thru your own trail and error method and there is right way but a better approach base on each project type and size. It better to try hand on small leather project to get a better feel.

One of the factor to consider is what type of leather is suitable for a project.
It all depend on each individual preference on type of leather to use. That where the selection process on buying leather materials start. There is a wide choice of leather materials.
However all these you can benefit if you have a sound fundamental on the properties of leather will be better head start.

Will try to share best practice what I have learn the hard way , thru trail and error and learning from friend and the World Wide Web..

Current tag holder is aging and it is plastic version. This is use in conjunction with car key, alarm and Touch and Go card.
Hence have to make a replacement holder before it give way or drop off.

Was looking for new way to do stitching beside the traditional way.  By adding two thread and wrap around the stitching thread loop.
See the accompany photo below for illustration on how it was done.

Tips - the white thread to start off is to tie underneath leather and from surface it to create a loop by passing under the black thread. To terminate both white thread by inserting and loop backward one step is sufficient.

Was trying different way to make key chain case that is practical and ease of use base on each individual user needs and requirement. * of course some special request and customization to match individual needs and requirement *.

There are four post key ring version and six post key ring version to suit needs of each person usage and daily needs.
There are different way to make key chain case and different locking button method to suit each individual needs.

Share some challenge to make a key chain case and it might look simple at first look. But need a certain skill set and knowhow to assemble them in certain sequence.

This is another key chain design (saw this design from Pinterest) and modify the design slightly and tried out different approach.

This is the result is after trying out the using VT2 button (inner buttoning using rivet and short leather to extend the button) and VT5 button style to better secure the key chain.

A typical key chain case is just to hold key within it casing. Have added other feather like a hook for certain use it handy to able to carry around. There are other possibility like add credit card or access card space.
There is unlimited combination you can think off for key chain holder design.

Tools for fabricate tag for key chain with a hook (from left to right)

    1) Thread sniper

    2) Hobby knife

    3) Marker pen

    4) Coin
    5) Leather Glue

Leather of suitable thickness and size typically 2 cm width and length is about 5 cm.

How to terminate thread by hiding in between the layer and trim off the thread close to edge.

Trim the excess thread and keep it as close to the leather edge to "hide" the thread end in between the two leather space.

Cut a slotted line to accommodate the strip of tag

Insert the strip of leather with pre configured button.

Use a clamp to position and hold the tag in place for the next process.

Apply small amount of glue to fix position of tag to surface.






A small amount
of glue will make life easier do punch hole for stitching work.

In this showing method and tools used to make a hook for key chain holder.

 Tips when cutting leather which is thick, insert a small piece at underneath one end of ruler. It give a better support as the hand apply pressure on ruler.













Use of paper template to mark on leather. Use a 20 cent coin for the curve part.

Position coin and use hobby knife to cut outline.

     Try new FOB key chain with hook.

Cut leather material to size. Typical width is about 2 cm for this size hook. The other piece is for band.
* the band strip need to carefully measure by wrapping around and mark to size.
